Real Junk Hand Work

Compact Equipment For Tighter Spaces
Our compact Kubota mini excavator is well suited to tighter residential areas and allows more controlled stump and root removal than larger equipment in many settings.
Access still depends on gate width, terrain and nearby structures — the machine doesn't fit every gate, and we won't pretend it does. We evaluate access from photos and measurements before scheduling equipment work.
When a property has the room for it, a skid steer with a grapple bucket can handle heavier stump and root material. On tighter lots it is simply too big to be useful, so the compact excavator or hand tools do the work instead.
Smaller stumps in tight spots can often be handled with hand tools when machine access isn't practical.

Stump Grinding vs. Full Removal
Stump Grinding
- Removes the visible stump below grade
- Leaves much of the root system underground
- Can be a good option when complete root removal isn't necessary
Full Stump & Root Removal
- Physically removes the stump and root ball
- Can make more sense for replanting, grading or hardscape
- Can make more sense for construction or site changes
- May create a larger excavation area
Neither method is always better — it depends on what you're doing with the space. We focus on full removal for projects where the stump or root mass needs to be physically removed.
What Affects The Price
Every stump is different, so we quote from photos instead of publishing one-size-fits-all prices. Pricing depends on:
- Stump diameter and depth
- Root spread
- Soil conditions, clay and rock
- Equipment access and gate width
- Distance from the loading area
- Nearby structures, irrigation and buried utilities
- Haul-away, backfill and rough grading

Stump Removal FAQ
How much does stump removal cost?
It depends on the stump's size, root spread, soil conditions, access and whether haul-away and backfill are included. Send us a clear photo of the stump and a wider photo of the access path and we'll put together a quote.
Do you grind stumps?
No — we focus on physical stump and root-ball removal rather than grinding. The stump and root mass are dug out and removed, which leaves the area ready for replanting, grading or hardscape.
Can you remove the roots too?
Yes, depending on the scope and access. Root removal can be included when the job calls for it.
Can your excavator fit through a backyard gate?
It depends on gate width and site conditions. We evaluate access from photos and measurements before scheduling equipment work, so send us the gate width and a few photos.
Do you haul the stump away?
Yes. Haul-away can be included in the quote so the stump and root debris leave with us.
What happens to the hole afterward?
Backfill and rough grading can be included when requested, so the area is left level and ready for what's next.
Can you backfill the hole?
Yes, when it's included in the quote.
What about irrigation lines?
Let us know about any known irrigation or underground lines before work starts. We plan the dig carefully around marked or known systems.
What about underground utilities?
Utility locating matters before any digging. We ask that known utilities are identified and marked before we put a bucket in the ground.
How long does stump removal take?
Small, accessible stumps can be quick. Larger root systems, clay, rock or limited access take longer. Photos help us give you a realistic expectation up front.
